Gentse Strop (330ml Bottle)

Description
Gentse Strop is a top-fermented blond Belgian Special Ale, re-fermented in the bottle (6.9% alc vol), to give a deliciously hoppy beer with a subtle fruity aroma.Gentse Strop owes its name to the proud ‘Gentenaars’, the citizens of Ghent, nicknamed the "noose-bearers. The beer is brewed by Brouwerij Roman based in Mater, a suburb of Oudenaarde.Oudenaarde and Ghent have a rich shared history, in which Emperor Charles was a pivotal figure. The uprising against him by the ‘Gentenaars’ in 1540 earned them the sobriquet the "noose-bearers”. But Oudenaarde was also the birthplace of Emperor Charles’s illegitimate daughter, Margaretha van Parma. And let’s not forget the Oudenaardse figure Hanske De Krijger (Hans the Warrior), legendary defender of the city, who was on look-out duty but, having drunk too much beer, had fallen asleep and therefore failed to notice Emperor Charles and his troops marching on Oudenaarde. To crown it all the historical year 1545 is also the year when the Roman family brewery was founded.
Tasting Notes
Belgian Ale
Belgian-style ales seldom fit neatly into classic beer styles, but this category represents those "session" ales (in Belgium this means under 7% abv!) that do not fit other categories. Colour ranges from golden to deep amber, with the occasional example coming in darker. Body tends to be light to medium, with a wide range of hop and malt levels. Yeastiness and acidity may also be present.
