Thornycroft Dark Ale (440ml Can)
Each batch is brewed in the age old tradition in a copper kettle and fermented in timber clad fermentation tanks, before being transferred to the stainless steel conditioning tanks to condition naturally. All beers are made from the finest selected ingredients. These include a range of classic malts, wheat and corn from New Zealand, Australia and the UK and traditional hop varieties from Nelson. Ultra filtered rain water and specialty yeasts are used to further enhance the natural flavours of the brews. There are no artificial additives, sugars or preservatives. The beers are unpasteurised and unfiltered. This ale takes its name from the sturdy old Thornycroft engine in the grounds of the Sawmill Café. Strong in flavour and colour, this typical dark ale is styled on the English Porter.
Black or chocolate malt gives the porter its dark brown color. Porters are well hopped and heavily malted. This is a medium-bodied beer. Porters can be sweet. Hoppiness can range from bitter to mild. Porters are often confused with stouts.
