Pot Kettle Black (330ml Bottle)
Yeastie Boys much loved debut beer - New Zealand's original ?Black IPA?. This year's vintage is built upon the same malt base as the original but has fired up the ?chocolate and orange character? with more NZ Cascade hops and a zesty fistful (or 10) of imported Styrian Goldings. At 6. 0%abv and 50ibu it is rich, hoppy and way too drinkable.
Pours black, brown edges. A bubbly tan head. Aroma is full of fruity, resinous hops. The flavour is all about the bitterness. A massive cloying bitterness hits the tongue with resiny hops, which is offset by chocolaty coffee roast malt. Hops are so fresh and strong that they verge on peppery. A very warming beer, perfect for winter. The finish is massive and lasts for ages. Very dry finishing due to the huge hops.
Black or chocolate malt gives the porter its dark brown color. Porters are well hopped and heavily malted. This is a medium-bodied beer. Porters can be sweet. Hoppiness can range from bitter to mild. Porters are often confused with stouts.
