ParrotDog Rarebird Ruru (650ml Bottle)
Ruru’s signature song — later heard as “Morepork” by Pākehā — calls out in the night, gently assuring us all is well. Swiveling its neck like a searchlight, gleaming golden eyes scour the darkness; Ruru is the watcher in the woods, sentinel of the spirits. Those eyes have been with us for generations, inspiring the vigilant pāua-accented gaze of marae carvings and the intense pūkana stare of haka and waiata. If we’re fortunate, they’ll watch over us a long time yet, and only rarely will Ruru sound its less familiar piercing shriek to warn of ill omen.
An emerging beer style roughly defined as a beer with IPA-level hopping, relatively high alcohol and a distinct toasty dark malt character. Typically lacks the roastiness and body of a strong stout and is hoppier than a strong porter. Expressive dry-hopping is common. Also called India Dark Ale, India Black Ale, Cascadian Dark Ale, Dark IPA, and sometimes India Brown Ale.
