Herne Tane (500ml Bottle)
This Manuka Smoked Pale Ale, in honour of Tāne, the Māori god of the forest and birds, was made purely from ALL NZ ingredients, made possible by the generous use of a newly released Manuka Smoked Malt from Gladfields Maltings in Dunsandel, Canterbury.
The colour of deep-copper/sunset-red, it’s a generously hopped (40 IBU’s), smoky Pale Ale, rather than an intensely smoky beer - Influenced by the classic European smoke beers, but with a distinctly New Zealand twist….
The classic smoked beers hail from Bamberg in Franconia, Germany. These are made using malt that has been smoked over beechwood. The insistent smokiness may be applied to any lager style. In North America, the same technique has been used to make smoked porter. Whiskey malt beers are made using peat-smoked malt.
