Fullers Golden Pride (330ml Bottle)
This superb quality premium beer is the equivalent of a Belgian 'Abbey Beer' or barley wine and is arguably the 'grand cru' of Fuller's bottled beers. First launched as a 330ml bottle available to pubs, Golden Pride built a popular following, which led to the release of the 500ml bottle available in a number of major supermarkets around the UK. However, if you are lucky enough you may also catch the beer on an occasional outing as a special cask beer. In days gone by at Christmas, as a special treat, Fuller's pub landlords would be able to keep a small barrel of draught Golden Pride on the back of the bar, dispensing to customers in strictly limited quantities. Italian fans, meanwhile, are able to enjoy this 'birra doppio malto' on tap all year round.
Pours clear and golden amber with a semi creamy off-white head. Fruity and light malt aroma, solid pinewood hops too. Initially sweet and quite dense malty with notes of fruit like banana. Smooth mouthfeel and flavour going into a little more bite before the finish. Finish holds a smooth yet complex malt base with fruit, sweetness, liqourice, caramel and mixed with hops to slowly provide a nice dryness. Great!
English Strong Ale
Malty, with complex fruity esters. Some oxidative notes are acceptable, akin to those found in port or sherry. Hop aromas not usually present, due to extended age. Medium amber to very dark red-amber color. Malty and usually sweet. Alcoholic strength should be evident, though not overwhelming. Medium to full body alcohol should contribute some warmth. An ale of significant alcoholic strength, though usually not as strong or rich as barleywine. Usually tilted toward a sweeter, more malty balance. Often regarded as winter warmers, and often released as seasonal beers.
