Allagash Dubbel Reserve (355ml Bottle)
Allagash Dubbel Reserve boasts a dark malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. With time, Allagash Dubbel Reserve will mature in the bottle and acquire distinctive port and sherry characteristics.
Thick, murky rose-brown color: amazing color. Head disappears almost instantly; better head would have improved it. Cherry liqueur in the nose, crystalline candi sugars. Sweet with a dark, dried-date aroma. Flavor is darkly, sugary sweet (corn sugar), dark grape and wine and sour cherry notes. Dark malt, a little more darkly sour as it warms; saccharine toward the end. Creamy and not that fizzy on the tongue. Well-balanced and easy to drink considering it’s 7% abv.
These are dark, malty, yeasty strong ales in the Trappist tradition, but produced (mainly) by secular brewers. Dubbels range between 6.5-8% abv, and have a dark brown, cloudy colour, and a palate mixing malt, a lush fruitiness, and yeast. They are typically bottle-conditioned.
