Stone Old Guardian (650ml Bottle)
A beautiful bold barley wine. Massive malt and hop notes. Silver Medal winner at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in the Barley Wine category. Gold Medal winner at the 2002 World Beer Championships in the Barley Wine Category. Look for it in the first quarter of each new year. Can be cellared or enjoyed upon its release.
Pours a cherry wood brown, clear. Tan Head. Good lacing. Smells of strong bitter hops and a significant amount of apricots. Delightful. Flavor is of bitter, sedimentary hops. Less apricots here, but an intense sweet nut finish. Another nice surprise from Stone Brewing Co. I have yet to be disappointed by them.
A Barley Wine is a strong, top-fermenting ale, with an alcohol contents of at least 9% and up to 13% (or more) by volume. Hops may be hardly noticeable at all or very noticeable. Sip them out of the special glass, that will concentrate the aroma. They are excellent with cigars or with dessert.
